What is engagement rate?
Engagement rate is the percentage of your audience that actively interacts with your content — through likes, comments, shares, and saves — rather than just scrolling past. It's the single most important metric brands use to judge whether a creator's audience is real and paying attention, which is why it matters far more than follower count alone.
A creator with 10,000 highly engaged followers is often worth more to a brand than one with 100,000 passive ones. That's the whole point of measuring engagement: it tells you (and the brands you pitch) how much influence you actually have.
The engagement rate formula
Measured against your followers:
(Likes + Comments) ÷ Followers × 100
TikTok
Measured against views, since reach is feed-driven:
(Likes + Comments + Shares) ÷ Views × 100
